Customer Rating: Summary: WONDERFUL TEXT ON BUSINESS Comment: GREAT BOOK. BUY IT, USE IT, SLEEP ON IT, YOU WILL LEARN MANY VERY USEFUL THINGS FROM STUDYING THIS BOOK. I GET ALL OF MY MASSAGE TEXTS FOR FREE, BUT THAT IS NOT THE POINT OF WRITING A REVIEW, WHETHER IT BE POSITIVE OR NEGATIVE FOR THE AUTHOR. GOOD IS GOOD. PRESIDENT, BROOKLYN INSTITUTE OF MASSAGE THERAPY ( BROOKLYN, NEW YORK USA : ).ENJOY!
Customer Rating: Summary: impractical and boring Comment: One of the most boring and impractical books I've ever read. This was the textbook used in my massage college for teaching business-building skills and establishing a clinical practice. There is very little practical or useful advice, especially for the massage or bodywork practitioner. The information is bland, the writing style hopelessly boring and the methodolgy flawed. Great on presenting theory but comes up short with information that truly works. When I began teaching massage therapy and Career Development, "Business Mastery" was the only textbook I was allowed to use. No other book put my students into a mental stupor more quickly than this one. Marketing advice should be simple, exciting and inspire you to see possibilities; this book makes it about as desirable as a root canal.
If you are interested in practical advice, I would recommend "Marketing Massage- How To Build Your Dream Practice", by Monica Rosenberry. Her methods are not based on classroom rhetoric or theory. To write her book, Monica interviewed and observed therapists from all over the United States, then catalogued the techniques/approaches that work and the ones that don't. She also offers the observations of clients/patients, what drives them away forever or keeps them coming back for years. Monica is a therapist herself, so has plenty of first-hand advice to offer in addition to interviews.
Customer Rating: Summary: Buisness Development at it's best Comment: I LOVE this book it's excellent for opening any holistic business. The person I bought it from was very honest about the condition of the book with the coffee stains but it was still readable. Im extremly pleased!
Customer Rating: Summary: A must for any working therapist! Comment: Written specifically for bodyworkers, Business Mastery is simply among the best business references for our profession. Presented in an accessible format, Cherie Sohnen-Moe speaks to the special needs of the professional therapist. The fact is that you are self employed whether you have your own practice or you are working for someone else as an independent contractor. Keeping that in mind, a book such as Business Mastery is as important as any of the anatomy and technique books in your library. Having designed and taught the business curriculum for a major massage school, Business Mastery remains my primary recommendation for anyone looking to pick up a first-class business reference manual.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great for virtually ALL holistic practitioners! Comment: You've mastered your studies, but to start a successful business or to manage an existing one you need to understand business operations - what business book can you turn to? This one!
There are many great books on business, many great books on the plethora of holistic modalities out there. The authors of this book understand both sides of the practitioners needs and put it together well, with great examples to work with. While the examples typically focus on massage/touch therapy, just about everything can be translated to other practices, such as Reiki, Acupuncture etc. - the basic concepts remain the same.
While there are a few chapters that run a bit long, I feel this book is worthwhile in any practitioner's collection. I have a copy of this book in my home office and plan to buy a second reference copy for my clinic. An invaluable reference guide!
